In Fourth Grade, we believe we are a community of readers and writers. This year, students will spend a great amount of time actively engaged in reading and writing. Students will study various genres, including memoirs, realistic fiction, expository essays, dramas and poetry.
We will be using a balanced literacy approach to teaching. Reading will be taught through read-alouds and mini-lessons, which will allow your student to learn from not only myself, but their peers, too. Students will then have an opportunity for independent reading while we pull small groups of students for more in-depth lessons.
In 4th grade, we will be taking a Writing STAAR test. Your child will learn how to write stories (personal narratives), expository pieces (essay/journal type writing), and they will learn how to revise and edit their writing and others' writing as well.
Texas Bluebonnet Award: Fourth Graders will have the opportunity to vote in the spring for the Texas Bluebonnet Book award winner. Students must read a minimum of 5 books to vote for the winner. To learn more about this year's nominees go to: http://www.txla.org/tba-nominees
